At what age can one start the process for the driver's license?

The age depends on the category you choose:

The motorcycle driving license, since the implementation of the new type of license from January 19, 2013 (uniform for the entire EU), includes 4 categories.

  • AM category from 16 years old (only with guardian's signature).
  • Class A1 from 18 years old
  • Class A2 from 20 years old
  • Category A from 24 years old or after 2 years of possession of A2
 

 
     
     
 

What kind of machine can I drive with the license I will get?

Depending on your age and the category you chose, you will drive:

  • Category AM: Mopeds and light quadricycles (up to 50 cm³)
  • Category A1: Motorcycles with a maximum displacement of 125 cm³, a maximum power of 11 kW and a power-to-weight ratio of less than 0.1 kW/kg, and
    Motorized tricycles, the power of which does not exceed 15 kW
  • Category A2: Motorcycles with a maximum power of 35 kW and with a maximum power-to-weight ratio of less than 0.2 kW/kg, which do not come from a modification of another motorcycle, with a power greater than twice the power of the modified motorcycle.
  • Category A: Motorcycles (of any displacement) and Motorized tricycles with a power exceeding 15 kW
 

 

 

I want to start driving lessons. How do I get started?

In order to start theoretical and practical courses, the Education & Examination Certificate (DEC) must first be issued.

To obtain the first diploma, you must:
  1. Do you have a VAT number?
  2. You hold a Greek Identity Card or residence or work permit (valid for at least 185 days).
  3. Prints of 2 passport size photos (4cm x 6cm).
  4. Visits by a Pathologist and an Ophthalmologist (cost 2 x €10).
  5. Issue and pay the following tolls (from the e-Toll):
    Driving license (Issue-Extension-Renewal code 20)
    Consolidated Initial Grant of category code 32
    Theoretical Examination M.S.TH.E.Y.O. code 2037
    Qualification and behavior test code 2038
  6. Fill it out Diploma Printing Application.
  7. Fill it out Application for Initial Grant (M-TAO01) του Υ.Μ.Ε.

With these steps, you'll be ready to start your driver's license training.
For the motorcycle folding extension:
  1. Do you have a VAT number?
  2. Prints of 2 passport size photos (4cm x 6cm).
  3. You hold a Greek Identity Card or residence or work permit (valid for at least 185 days).
  4. You hold a motorcycle license
  5. to issue & pay the following receipts (from the e-Receipt):
    (Consolidated Extension to category code 33)
    (Qualification and behavior test code 2038)
  6. Fill it out Diploma Printing Application.
  7. Fill it out Application for Initial Grant (M-TAO02) του Υ.Μ.Ε.
For the extension of a Car license:
  1. Do you have a VAT number?
  2. Prints of 2 passport size photos (4cm x 6cm).
  3. You hold a Greek Identity Card or residence or work permit (valid for at least 185 days).
  4. You have a driving license
  5. to issue & pay the following receipts (from the e-Receipt):

Has my training card been issued now?

You are ready to go. By law, you are required to take certain Theoretical and Practical courses before the driving test.

For a first degree:

Theoretical Education
You must attend KETHEVO (Theoretical Training Center for Candidate Drivers) 31 hours of theory* to acquire the necessary knowledge for your success in the theory exams (car and motorcycle driving signals).

Practical training

You must complete 14 hours of practical riding on a training bike (either automatic for AM or A1, or manual transmission). During these hours of training you will acquire the comfort of handling the motorcycle, the knowledge and application of the KOK, the economical driving and the maneuvering procedures inside the track so that you can easily pass the practical driving tests.

THE 31 HOURS MUST ALSO INCLUDE THE 20 HOURS OF CAR THEORY.
For the motorcycle folding extension:

Theoretical Education
You are not required to take theoretical training, nor to take theoretical exams.

Practical training
You must complete 6 hours of practical riding on a training bike (either A1 automatic only, or manual transmission). During these hours of training you will acquire the comfort of handling the motorcycle, the knowledge and application of the KOK, the economical driving and the maneuvering procedures inside the track so that you can easily pass the practical driving tests.
For the extension of a Car license:

Theoretical Education
You must attend KETHEVO (Theoretical Training Center for Candidate Drivers) for 11 hours of theory to acquire the necessary knowledge to pass the theory test (motorcycle driving signals).

Practical training
You must complete 12 hours of practical riding on a training bike (either automatic for AM or A1, or manual transmission). During these hours of training you will acquire the comfort of handling the motorcycle, the knowledge and application of the KOK, the economical driving and the maneuvering procedures inside the track so that you can easily pass the practical driving tests.
